The third International Congress on donor milk banking, uses of human milk and breastfeeding advocacy brought together a unique group of speakers and participants from around the world. Cutting edge clinical practice and research were presented in this exciting two day event. (Brochure)

Purpose

To increase health professional knowledge about the uses of human milk, global milk banking practices, and breastfeeding support.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the short term and long term benefits of donor human milk for preterm infants
  • Outline the safety of donor milk including disease transmission, contamination, screening and processing
  • Describe the beneficial composition of human milk, including the latest research on oligosaccharides, anti-tumor effects and effects of additives on human milk
  • Apply strategies for effective support for the mother who is breastfeeding a preterm infant
  • Outline key factors in effective storage and handling of human milk

Call for Poster Abstracts

The conference welcomed poster presentations, with 250-word abstracts due before February 11, 2010. All anticipants were required to register for the conference for posters to be accepted. All poster presentations were required to comply with the WHO Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes and Massachusetts laws about educational conferences. A 4x8 poster display board was provided.

Educational Credits

Application has been approved for CERPS (Lactation Consultant-CERPs unless otherwise indicated), CEUs for nurses and dieticians, and category 1 equivalent CME credits for physicians. All participants should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their actual attendance.
