Nonprofit Milk Banks Dispense Record 13 Million Ounces of Donor Milk in 2025
February 5, 2026, Fort Worth, TX – The Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) announces that its network of nonprofit milk banks dispensed 13 million ounces of pasteurized donor human milk in 2025, a 12% increase from the previous year. This milestone underscores the growing importance of donor milk as a critical nutritional intervention for infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and beyond.
HMBANA Executive Director Lindsay Groff highlighted the impact of this achievement, stating, “This increase reflects the generosity of donors, the dedication of our nonprofit milk banks, and the clinicians who rely on donor milk to protect vulnerable infants when it matters most.”
HMBANA’s 31 member milk banks operate under rigorous safety and clinical standards, ensuring equitable access to donor milk for medically fragile infants. As demand for donor milk continues to rise, the need for increased awareness, milk donors, and financial support remains critical.
